Direct Access

What is Direct Access?

Direct Access is an important philosophy at Big Bear, and it’s relatively simple. It means that patients have direct access to physical therapy services without a prescription to receive physical therapy services. When patients have direct access to their physical therapists, they are able to reap a variety of benefits that aren’t as easy to come by when referrals are required.

In our experience, Direct Access improves the relationship between both patients and therapists, and makes collaboration with other healthcare providers much smoother and easier. Also, since early physical therapy has many proven benefits, Direct Access makes it easier to receive care in a timely fashion, reducing the risks associated with prolonging treatment of your condition. Since referrals require a physician’s visit, which often come with a co-pay, Direct Access saves both you and your insurance company money. By eliminating the unnecessary step of procuring a referral, we are also eliminating frustrating barriers that get in the way of the therapy you need.

This means… You can begin treatment right away!

You may come directly to us and receive an evaluation and treatment for any musculoskeletal injury. We can treat that acute or chronic shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, neck, back, hip, knee, ankle, or foot injury right now!

Upon completion of your Physical Therapy evaluation, we will determine your treatment plan. If further diagnostic tools (e.g., x-ray, MRI, etc.) are needed to ensure proper care, Big Bear will communicate our findings with the physician of your choice.
